How-to Use this Site

To use the site, register for a login on the site (upper right hand corner of this page), then once you're registered and logged in, you will have permission to add pages and edit the site (the registration requires approval, to filter spammers, but if you were registered in previous years, you should still be registered now).

If you are a student interested in the project, the best place to start is the Student Information Page.

Google Summer of Code 2012

The Google Summer of Code(external link) is a program that offers student developers stipends to write code for various open-source software projects. Students are paired with mentors for each project.

If we are accepted into the program, students will then have the opportunity to apply to work on one of our ideas or they can generate their own ideas. Once they have submitted applications, we will select the students/projects that we want to work with.

Mentor signup

To participate, a project needs to have mentors who are willing to work with students. If you are interested in being a mentor, this the place to sign up. If you're not sure what it takes to be a mentor, you can read, Advice for Mentors(external link), which has some good information.

Here is a list of people who have volunteered to be a mentor. Add your name if you would like to participate.

  • Jirka Kosek
  • David Cramer
  • Boris Schaeling (see idea "Review and improve HTML stylesheets")
  • Kasun Gajasinghe
  • Eric Johnson
  • Dick Hamilton
  • Stefan Seefeld

Application Page

We maintain a copy of the GSoC Application for the DocBook Project. The application was submitted on March 9.

Ideas

We have a separate Ideas Page, which contains information about project ideas. Feel free to add and update ideas as appropriate.

Information for Students

If you are a student interested in applying to the Google Summer of Code with a DocBook project, please visit the Student Information Page.

Lessons Learned

The DocBook Project participated in GSoC in 2010. The Lessons Learned Page contains comments about the process that year. Check it out, and leave any thoughts you have on the program and how we can make it work even better this time around.
